Final days to support CACTUS
community television initiative
The IMAA supports a proposal by CACTUS (Canadian Association of Community Television Users and Stations) that the significant funds already being collected by cable companies for community TV be directed toward independent media centres to be are accessible by local producers and creators of media. We encourage our membership to support this vision by making a submission to the CRTC. You can use a sample letter provided by CACTUS, or better, personalize it by elaborating on your experiences with community-access TV and what CACTUS' initiative could mean to your centre or community of members. Deadline for written submissions is Monday February 1, 2010You can also appear at the CRTC hearings in person or by videoconference in April. Check out CACTUS' primer on how to appear. The IMAA national office feels that the vision that CACTUS has outlined for a new type of community-based, multiplatform media production and broadcasting centre has real potential for engaging IMAA members who see a connection with their own mandates and plans. The CRTC review of the community broadcasting sector is relevant to all who have a stake in rebalancing the access of voices and perspectives to broadcast media in Canada, and in building links between communities, local producers and audiences for independently-made media.Additional information about the IMAA's support of this issue is available on the IMAA web site
